Sicura Automatic - Fumé Brown Dial (Baumgartner 158, 1970s)

Description: Sicura automatic from the 1970s, a Swiss watch with a 17-jewel Baumgartner Caliber 158 movement. Stainless steel cushion-shaped case at approximately 38-40mm wide, with a polished bezel & a brushed top surface. Fumé gradient dial that shifts from warm bronze-champagne at the center to deep brown at the edges, with applied silver-tone baton indices, luminous plots & a framed date window at 3 o’clock. Sicura, 17 Jewels, Automatic, Waterresistant & Swiss Made printed on the dial. Brown smooth leather strap with matching stitching, aftermarket & not original.

Story of This Watch: Sicura was a Swiss watch company founded in Grenchen in 1939, & under Ernest Schneider in the 1960s & 70s it became known for tool watches & bold design. In 1979 Schneider took over the Breitling name & Navitimer rights, & Sicura was eventually folded into Breitling. This watch was made by Sicura, not Breitling, but it comes from the company that kept Breitling alive. What makes this one worth owning is the dial. The fumé gradient fades from bronze to brown & catches the light in a way that flat dials don’t, & the cushion case gives it the shape of its decade. It’s a clean 70s automatic that looks far better in person than most watches at this price.

Condition: Excellent condition, rated 5/5, in new old stock condition. Dial is clean & even with the gradient, indices & printing fully intact. Case is sharp with a bright bezel & no notable wear. Regularly serviced & running reliably. The strap is aftermarket. No polishing. No box or papers.
