The Seiko 6139-6002 Pogue is an iconic Japanese automatic chronograph from the 1970s, featuring a distinctive red & blue Pepsi tachymeter bezel, dark blue dial & stainless steel cushion-shaped case. Measuring approximately 41mm in diameter, 46mm lug-to-lug & 14mm thick, the watch carries the unmistakable proportions of Seiko's early automatic chronographs. Powered by the Seiko Caliber 6139B, a 17-jewel automatic chronograph movement operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, it features a central chronograph seconds hand, 30-minute counter at 6 o'clock & day/date display at 3 o'clock. The dial is complemented by luminous hour markers, an internal rotating timing ring & contrasting orange chronograph hands. Fitted with a stainless steel link bracelet.

Story of This Watch:

The Seiko 6139 holds a significant place in horological history as one of the world's first automatic chronograph movements, introduced in 1969. Its nickname, "Pogue," comes from NASA astronaut Colonel William Pogue, who wore his personal Seiko 6139 during the Skylab 4 mission in 1973, making it the first automatic chronograph known to have been worn in space. Although Pogue's personal watch featured a yellow dial, the dark blue variant belongs to the same celebrated 6139-600x family. Beyond its space connection, the watch represents Seiko's remarkable engineering achievements during the golden age of mechanical chronographs. Its distinctive Pepsi bezel, bold cushion case & historically important movement have made the Pogue one of the most recognizable vintage Japanese chronographs among collectors.

Condition:

Good vintage condition, rated 3/5. The dark blue dial displays visible aging & patina, particularly around the hour markers, while the luminous indices & hands show discoloration consistent with age. The stainless steel case exhibits surface scratches & regular wear, with visible aging around the bezel & crystal. The red & blue Pepsi tachymeter bezel retains its distinctive coloring with signs of use. Fitted with a stainless steel link bracelet showing age-appropriate wear. The automatic movement, chronograph, day/date functions & other mechanical operations are reported to function correctly. However, the internal rotating timing bezel adjustment is non-functional & cannot be rotated as intended. This defect is disclosed transparently. No polishing or servicing reported.
