Description: Seiko 5 Sports reference SRPK17, the 55th Anniversary limited edition released in 2023. A faithful recreation of the original 1968 Seiko 5 Sports reference 61-5D. 39.5mm cushion-style "helmet" case in stainless steel with a recessed crown at 4 o'clock. Black dial with large luminous rectangular indexes, the original 1968-spec blue & red Seiko 5 shield logo at 12 o'clock, period-correct blue & red "SPORTS" text at 6 o'clock, & a red central seconds hand. Friction-fit bidirectional black & white timing bezel replicating the original 1960s design exactly. Caliber 4R36 automatic movement, 24 jewels, with hacking & hand-winding - features the original 1968 movement did not have. 10 BAR water resistance. Solid flat-link stainless steel bracelet built to modern standards. Comes with original box & papers.
Story of This Watch: In 1968, Seiko launched the first 5 Sports - a cushion-case automatic with a timing bezel & a bold dial layout that looked unlike anything else on the market. It became one of the most influential Japanese sport watches ever made. Fifty-five years later, Seiko produced the SRPK17 as a near-exact visual recreation of that original, down to the shield logo font, the Sports text colour split & the bezel design. The difference is what's underneath: the modern 4R36 adds hacking & hand-winding that the original 61-5D lacked, & the solid bracelet is vastly better built than the hollow links of the 1960s. This is the rare anniversary piece that earns its existence by actually getting the details right.
