Description: HMT manual-winding mechanical watch from the 1970s-80s, 17 jewels, made in India. Silver sunburst dial with applied silver baton indexes & slim dauphine hands. No date, no complications - a pure time-only dress watch in the most honest sense. Large round stainless steel case with a polished finish & clean proportions. Crown at 3 o'clock. Original stainless steel expanding bracelet, solid & present with some stiffness from age & lack of use. "Made in India" printed on the lower dial.

Story of This Watch: HMT - Hindustan Machine Tools - was India's state-owned watchmaker, established in 1961 with technical collaboration from Citizen of Japan. For three decades, HMT was how the subcontinent told time. Before Titan, before quartz, before imported Japanese watches reached everyday consumers across Nepal & India, there was HMT. The movement inside is a licensed Citizen calibre built on Indian soil - the same technical DNA as a Japanese watch, assembled by a government factory that was producing hundreds of thousands of units a year at its peak. Finding one with the original bracelet intact & the movement running is increasingly uncommon as these disappear from circulation. This is subcontinental horological history on a wrist.
