HMT Kohinoor - Ice Blue Dial (Hand-Winding, 1990)

Description: HMT Kohinoor manual-wind from 1990, with a 17-jewel Para Shock movement. Original ice-blue dial with silver bar indices, silver baton hands & a central seconds hand. No date window, which keeps the face clean & simple. Stainless steel case at approximately 36mm with 18mm lug width. Brown alligator-style leather strap, a replacement & not original.

Story of This Watch: HMT was India’s national watchmaker, set up in the 1950s as Hindustan Machine Tools & building its watches with technical collaboration from Citizen of Japan. For decades an HMT on the wrist was the default Indian watch, & the Kohinoor was one of its dressier lines. Para Shock on the dial is HMT’s shock protection for the balance, a practical detail for a watch worn every day. What sets this one apart is the dial. Most HMTs of this era came in silver, white or champagne, so an original ice-blue face is a rare change from the usual, & it pairs well with a brown leather strap.
