Description: Seiko 5 reference 7009-3170 from 1989, running on the 7009 automatic calibre - the direct predecessor to the 7S26. Dark charcoal dial with warm gold-tone applied baton indexes & matching gold-tone hands that have developed a pleasing aged tone consistent with a 35-year-old piece. Day & date window at 3 o'clock. Round stainless steel case with a brushed finish showing honest age. Crown at 3 o'clock. Crystal replaced as part of servicing. Currently fitted on a black rubber strap - original bracelet not present.
Story of This Watch: The 7009 calibre predates the 7S26 that most Seiko 5 collectors know, making the 7009-3170 a slightly earlier & less commonly found configuration. It ran through the 1980s as Seiko's core everyday automatic, reliable to the same standard that made the Seiko 5 line famous globally. A 1989 example means this watch is pushing 35 years old & has been kept in personal collection, recently serviced & running smoothly. The dark charcoal dial with gold-tone indexes is a combination that reads better in person than in photographs - the warmth of the aged lume against the dark ground gives it a depth that flat black dials simply do not have.
